Miletus, Turkey

The tour continued with a trip to Miletus. We were thankful for the air conditioned ride as the temperature was about 104. Miletus was visited by the Apostle Paul on one of his journeys to Jerusalem. It was also seized by Alexander the Great in 334 BC.
Once in Miletus, our tour guide took us through some more ruins including a Roman theatre.
Spectators could purchase season tickets and would carve their names in the stone benches.
There were holes drilled in some of the benches where the guests would insert umbrellas to protect them from the sun. Only a small percentage of the ruins here have been uncovered.
It is still undergoing excavations that take awhile because funds are limited by the university that is responsible for the work.
